Biography

MICHAEL BALLHAUS is a two-time Academy Award® nominee for his work on "Broadcast News" and "The Fabulous Baker Boys," winning National Society of Film Critics and Los Angeles Film Critics Awards for the latter. The Los Angeles Film Critics also honored him for his cinematography on Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas (1990)." In addition, he earned BAFTA nominations for that film, as well as Scorsese's "Age Of Innocence, The (1993)" He also lensed Scorsese's "Last Temptation of Christ, The (1988) ," "Color of Money, The (1986)" and "After Hours (1985)," and is presently reunited with the director as the cinematographer on "Gangs Of New York (2001)."
He had previously collaborated with Robert Redford on "Quiz Show (1994)," and has been Mike Nichols' cinematographer of choice on "What Planet Are You From? (2000)?," "Primary Colors (1998)," "Postcards from the Edge (1990)" and "Working Girl (1988)." His other film credits include "Wild Wild West (1999)," "Air Force One (1997)," "Outbreak (1995)," "I'll Do Anything (1994)," "Mambo Kings (1992)," "Bram Stoker's Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)," "What About Bob?," "Guilty by Suspicion (1991)," "House on Carroll Street,The (1988)," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988)" and "Reckless," as well as numerous films in his native Germany.
