Biography

Tom Wilkinson recently appeared in Ang Lee's Civil War drama "Ride with the Devil," opposite Tobey Maguire, Skeet Ulrich and Jewel. "Ride with the Devil" marked Wilkinson's second film with Lee; he played Mr. Dashwood in the director's 1995 "Sense and Sensibility," opposite Emma Thompson. One of the busiest actors in Britain and the United States, Wilkinson won kudos and a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Fennyrnan in John Madden's Academy Award®-winning "Shakespeare in Love." His performance as Gerald in Peter Cattaneo's Academy Award®.nominated comedy "The Full Monty" won Wilkinson a Best Supporting Actor BAFTA Award. Other film credits include "Rush Hour," "The Governess," "Wilde," Gillian Armstrong's "Oscar and Lucinda," Bile August's "Smilla's Sense of Snow," Antonia Bird's "Priest," Jim Sheridan's "In the Name of the Father" and David Hare's "Wetherby." He recently completed Traktor's "Chain of Fools."

A renowned stage actor in his native England, Wilkinson has performed with such prestigious companies as The National Theater, The Royal Shakespeare Company and The Oxford Playhouse. His stage work includes the tide roles in "King Lear," "Tom and Viv," "Henry V" and "Peer Gynt." He played John Proctor in "The Crucible" and the lead in "White Chameleon," both at the National Theatre.

Wilkinson's U.K. television credits include "Prime Suspect," Pecksniff in "Martin Chuzzlewit" and the Duke in "Measure for Measure.
