Theodore Shapiro has scored many successful independent films, including Karyn Kusama’s Girlfight (Grand Jury Prize, Sundance Film Festival), Eric Bross’ Restaurant, Brett Morgen and Nanette Burstein’s On the Ropes (Academy Award® nomination for Best Documentary), John Hamburg’s Safe Men, Adam Bernstein’s Six Ways to Sunday, Morgan J. Freeman’s Hurricane Streets (Audience Award, Sundance Film Festival) and Brett Morgen’s Ollie’s Army. Shapiro’s concert music has been performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. In fall 1999, his piano concerto, 'Avenues' was premiered by pianist Awadagin Pratt and the Seattle Symphony.
