Biography

ANGELA BETTIS co-starred in Girl, Interrupted with Winona Ryder, Whoopi Goldberg and Angelina Jolie, who earned an Academy Award® for her performance. Bettis recently wrapped two films set for release this fall. She has a lead role in The Ponder Heart, a PBS adaptation of Eudora Welty’s novella, to air as part of Masterpiece Theatre’s new American Collection telefilm series. The film was directed by Martha Coolidge (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge/If These Walls Could Talk II). Perfume, is an improvisational feature set in the world of fashion. Michael Rymer directed the film that also stars Richard Dreyfuss, Omar Epps, Jeff Goldblum and Paul Sorvino. Other films include the independent feature The Last Best Sunday, which garnered rave reviews when it premiered at the Seattle Film Festival. Previous to that she starred in Franco Zeffirelli’s Sparrow.

Bettis is a seasoned theatre actress as well. She starred in Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia, directed by Trevor Nunn, at the Lincoln Center Theater, and when it moved to the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, she was honored for her performance with both a Drama-Logue Award and a Garland Award. She then went on to co-star opposite Frank Langella in the Broadway production of The Father, a role she later reprised at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Additionally, she performed in the critically lauded Stamford Theater Works production of Salome, with Al Pacino.
