Biography

GARRY McDONALD is best known for his long-running role as Arthur Beare in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's (ABC) sitcom MOTHER AND SON, and for THE NORMAN GUNSTON SHOW, Garry McDonald's work has made him one of Australia's best known personalities. His many awards include induction into the TV Week Hall of Fame and being honored as one of Australia's Living National Treasures. His film credits include Peter Weir's PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK (1975), MR. ACCIDENT (2000) and STRUCK BY LIGHTNING (1990) for which Garry received a Sydney Film Critics' Award for Best Actor. His extensive theatre credits include LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR directed by Adam Cook, AFTER THE BALL directed by David Berthold, MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (1993) with director Wayne Harrison, EMERALD CITY (1998) directed by Richard Wherrett, and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (1986) (David Atkins Enterprises).
