Biography

John Fortune most recently starred in Maybe Baby (2000) and Saving Grace (2000), opposite Brenda Blethyn.
He was part of the legendary talents nurtured at Cambridge University in the '60s. He directed "Footlights Revue" in his second year and wrote and performed sketches in his third. A founding member of Peter Cook's Establishment Club, he wrote and performed with Eleanor Bron and John Bird, both in England and on tour in America.
He was a mainstay of British television's satirical golden age - "Not So Much a Programme," "BBC3" and "The Late Show." Since then he has co-written and appeared in many comedy series including "Birds and Well Anyway," with John Bird; "On the Margin," with Alan Bennett; "Where was Spring?" with Eleanor Bron; and "The End of the Pier Show" and "In the Looking Glass" with John Wells and Carl David.
His first novel, A Melon for Ecstasy, was co-written with John Wells. His theatre appearances are prodigious in both comedy and drama, and he is a frequent contributor to the best of television comedy. He has collaborated on all the "Rory Bremner - Who else?" television series and with Bremner and John Bird on "Bremner, Bird & Fortune."
Fortune's appetite for work shows no sign of waning - he is writing a novel and a screenplay, working with Rory Bremner and John Bird on further specials, and will soon appear on screen with Nicole Kidman.
