“ Fifteen years after ushering in a new era of CGI animation, and 11 years after a colossally successful pre-millennial sequel, the Toy Story franchise returns to a changed world. Its irresistible conceit and snappy good humor remain largely intact, though now it also hauls a saltier and more anxious sensibility. Inanimate figurines don’t age, but they do get nicked up and discarded, and that tension between immortality and irrelevance remains the central conflict in Lee Unkrich’s Toy Story 3. ”
“ That whooshing sound you hear is the collective exhalation of breath all over Los Angeles County -- and especially in the Walt Disney corporate offices -- as the film industry's suits realize that finally, like a bunch of monkeys accidentally typing the Magna Carta, they've backed a winner. "Toy Story 3," from the ever-reliable purveyors of digital charm at Pixar, is a bona fide summer delight loaded with action, humor, nostalgia, a veritable blizzard of pop-culture references and general good vibes. Add in the extra revenue from widespread 3-D projection, and the dismal Hollywood summer of 2010 has finally found its zillion-dollar windfall. ”
“ What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this BRILLIANT franchise that is Toy Story? And now… taking the complete opposite route of the typical “third movie syndrome”, Toy Story 3 will only add to the shower of accolades bestowed upon the crown jewel of Pixar Studios. You can rest assured it utterly deserves ever glowing compliment — not just because its competition has been relatively weak this year (granted, with the exception of How to Train Your Dragon), but because it is leaps & bounds more accomplished than just about anything else that’s come out this year or much of the last 11 years the franchise has been “absent” (yes, hard to believe Toy Story 2 was released in 1999!). And when I write that, I don’t mean from standpoint of the animated genre; I mean this from a STORY-TELLING aspect. It’s nothing short of miraculous that this latest version — even after 11 years — retains the ability to tell its story in such a fresh, ultra-clever, totally engaging way without losing so much as a step. ”
