BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY (2001) has beaten off a challenge from CAPTAIN CORELLI'S MANDOLIN (2001) at the Irish box office. Bridget Jones outgunned the new release to remain at the top of the Irish box office for the fourth weekend in a row. Captain Corelli, which stars NICOLAS CAGE and Penélope Cruz, took in a disappointing $160,000 (£100,000) from 51 screens. But Bridget Jones, which stars Renée Zellweger and HUGH GRANT, has taken in $4 million (£2. 5 million) after four weekends on release. PADDY KELLY of UNITED NTERNATIONAL PICTURES says, "We are expecting Bridget Jones's Diary to run for at least eight weeks and take in over $4. 8 million (£3 million). People are going back to see it two or three times. " (RXT/II/RP)
